As you know, California's Proposition 8 recently passed, banning marriage equality in California. This is partly because of the Roman Catholic and Mormon churches, which illegally donated $35.8 million for a publicity campaign supporting Proposition 8?
Why illegal? Churches enjoy tax-exempt status as charities, which according to IRS law, prohibits them from using their money for lobbying activity or to support political campaigns. Opponents of Prop 8 have to pay taxes, so why shouldn't its supporters have to as well?
How can you help? File a Tax Exempt Organization Complaint Form with the IRS, insisting that the church should have to pay taxes on this $35.8 million. You can find the form, filled out except for the personal information here:

Churches are tax-exempt with the understanding that their money will be used to do legitimate charitable work, not to support partisan political campaigns. Please help us fight this injustice.
